AI-generated imagePodcasts are a wonderful way to deepen your understanding of breathwork between sessions: on a walk, while cooking, or before falling asleep. Out of the many shows out there, these five stand out for their quality, range and ability to make the breath accessible — from neuroscience to gentle guided practices.

A quick note before you press play: some episodes include guided breathing exercises. Never practise them while driving, swimming, in water or operating machinery, and read the contraindications if you have any health conditions.
1. Huberman Lab — the science of breathing
Host: Dr. Andrew Huberman. One of the world's most popular science podcasts, regularly covering how breathing shapes the brain, stress and performance.
Start with: "Dr. Jack Feldman: Breathing for Mental & Physical Health & Performance" (Episode 54). A detailed conversation with a leading respiration researcher about why we breathe the way we do, physiological sighs, box breathing, cyclic hyperventilation, nose versus mouth breathing and the link between breathing and emotions.
2. Oxygen Advantage Podcast — functional breathing
Host: Patrick McKeown, author of The Oxygen Advantage and a prominent teacher of Buteyko-based functional breathing. Conversations with breathing experts, doctors, athletes and yoga teachers explore nasal breathing, CO2 tolerance and everyday breathing habits.
Start with: the conversation with James Nestor, author of "Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art". It explores how modern habits changed the way we breathe and what we can do about it.
3. Take a Deep Breath — a whole show about breath
Host: Mike Maher, breathwork coach. An entire podcast dedicated to breathwork and breathing, with scientists, yoga teachers, freedivers and facilitators from different traditions.
Start with: "Dr. Belisa Vranich — Is Your Breathing Making You Sick?" (Episode 136). A practical conversation about breathing mechanics and retraining dysfunctional breathing patterns.
4. Breathwork Bestie — guided practices for every mood
Host: Chrystal Rose, transformation coach and breathwork facilitator, together with guest facilitators. Short guided breathwork episodes are organised around different moods and needs — useful when you want to practise rather than only listen.
Start with: "Episode 161: Simple Box Breathing with Chrystal Rose" — a calm, nine-minute introduction to a simple regulating technique. New listeners are also encouraged to begin with episode 1.
5. The Breathwork Club — simple tools, gently explained
Host: Brian Malone. Each episode offers accessible ways to connect with your breathing, accompanied by music from Irish composer Gareth Quinn Redmond. Calm, unpretentious and approachable for beginners.
Start with: "Ep 52 Bedtime Breathwork — A Simple Breathwork Practice for Sleep". The episode combines the physiological sigh, left-nostril breathing and triangle breathing in a short evening routine. It pairs well with our article on breathwork for sleep.
How to get the most out of breathwork podcasts
- Listen first, practise second: with science episodes, take notes and try one technique at a time.
- Guided episodes need a safe place: lie or sit somewhere comfortable — never in the car or in water.
- Audio is not a session: podcasts are useful for learning and short practices, but deeper high-ventilation journeys such as Rebirthing are best experienced with a facilitator in the room.
