What is Rebirthing Breathwork?
Rebirthing is a simple, yet powerful conscious connected breathing technique. Developed in the 1970s by Leonard Orr, it utilizes continuous, rhythmic breath cycles where the pause between inhalation and exhalation is eliminated. By flooding the body with air and life-force energy, it bypasses the analytical mind and taps directly into the nervous system. It allows accumulated stress, suppressed emotions, and energetic blocks to surface and clear, offering a path to deep relaxation and self-discovery. It can help to release stuck mental-emotional patterns and conditioning, induce elevated levels of consciousness and reveal deep insight into one’s life. It can bring about healing on Physical, Mental and Emotional levels. Rebirthing is a journey towards freedom. Many people feedback that it is one of the most transformative experiences of their life!
How does it work?
- Our bodies store the imprints of everything we have been through—including early childhood experiences and the subconscious patterns formed during birth (hence the name "Rebirthing"). By consciously connecting the breath, you access these cellular memories. It allows you to release old trauma and limiting beliefs without needing to analytically dissect them.
- The breath acts as a bridge between the conscious and unconscious, between the mind and the body. As you breathe deeply you increase the level of Pranic or Chi energy in your system. Eventually this energy increases to a level where it will start to push out any energetic blockages.
- Rebirthing works on the principle that there is a direct connection between mental, physical and energetic bodies. When we clear out any blockages from the energy system, this directly effects our mental and physical well-being. Relaxing and releasing the breath dissolves tension in both the body and the mind. It is a powerful tool for shifting from chronic survival mode into a state of authentic flow, deep clarity, and presence.
How is the process for 1-on-1 Sessions:
After some introduction into the technique and optional Q&A we will usually explore issues, you want to work with, and any past trauma or condition, that you may want to release. Furthermore we discuss in which way you would like to be supported during the Session.
You then begin the conscious breathing session which is usually done lying down. You learn to consciously connect your breath so that there are no pauses between the inhale and the exhale. The inhalation is full and deep and the exhalation more passive and relaxed. Slowly you are guided to find your own rhythm, probably slightly faster and fuller than you are used to.
As the breath builds, you might experience physical sensations like temperature changes, tingling, shaking or temporary muscle tightness (often called tetany). You might experience waves of joy, grief, anger, or deep peace. You may laugh, cry or scream. Everything is welcome!
The active breathing session lasts approximately 1 hour. An relaxation and integration phase of 20 to 30 minutes, gives you enough time to gently return after the session. In total, a Rebirthing Breathwork session takes approximately around 2-3 hours.
