Breathwork Group Sessions vs. 1-on-1 Sessions: Which Is Right for You?
AI-generated imageGroup or private? There is no universally better way to experience breathwork. A group session offers shared energy, connection and a welcoming first taste of the practice. A 1-on-1 session gives you my full attention, a pace tailored to you and more room for a specific intention or personal theme. The right starting point is often the setting in which you feel safest and most able to let go.
Both formats use the same foundation: conscious, connected breathing in a carefully held setting. If the method itself is new to you, start with What Is Rebirthing Breathwork?.
What a Group Breathwork Session Is Like
My regular group sessions in Berlin-Lichtenberg usually bring together 5 to 15 people. Festivals and other larger events can involve bigger groups, but the regular format remains small enough to feel personal.
We begin with approximately 30 minutes of introduction. I explain the breathing pattern, what you may experience and how to adjust the intensity. There is time to arrive, settle and form an intention before anyone begins the active practice.
The active breathing lasts about one hour. Everyone follows their own process, yet the group creates a palpable collective atmosphere: the room breathes together. Music, the shared rhythm and the awareness that others are going through the practice alongside you can make it easier to stay with the experience.
Afterwards, there is time to rest, return gradually and share. Sharing is an invitation, not an obligation—you never have to describe anything you would rather keep private.
What a 1-on-1 Breathwork Session Is Like
A private session begins with an individual conversation about where you are, what has brought you to breathwork and what kind of support you need. That conversation lets me adapt the session to you rather than asking you to fit into a fixed group structure.
Timing is flexible. We can give more space to the conversation before or after the breath, and the active breathing itself can extend to up to 1.5 hours when that serves your process. You remain in control throughout: slowing down, pausing or changing the breath is always possible.
The private format can be especially supportive if you feel nervous in groups, want to explore a particular theme, prefer more time to ask questions or need the practice adapted with extra care.

Which Setting Might Suit You?
Choose a Group Session If…
- You are curious about breathwork and want to experience it alongside others.
- Shared energy and a sense of community help you feel supported.
- You are comfortable following a common structure while having your own inner experience.
- You want to attend one of the scheduled Berlin sessions or a larger festival event.
Choose a 1-on-1 Session If…
- You want to focus on a particular intention, transition or recurring pattern.
- Privacy and individual attention would help you relax more fully.
- You would benefit from flexible timing or longer conversations before and after breathing.
- You feel uncertain about joining a group or want to ask detailed questions first.
- You have health considerations and—after obtaining medical clearance—need the practice adapted carefully. Always review the breathwork contraindications before taking part.
Your First Choice Is Not a Commitment
You do not have to pick one format forever. Some people begin privately to learn the breathing pattern and build trust, then join a group. Others discover breathwork through a group and later book a 1-on-1 session to explore something more personal. The formats can complement each other.
Whichever you choose, preparing for your first session can help you arrive comfortable, informed and with enough space afterwards to integrate the experience.

FAQ:
- Should a beginner start with a group or a 1-on-1 session? Both welcome beginners. Choose the group if shared energy feels encouraging; choose 1-on-1 if privacy, questions or a flexible pace would help you feel safer.
- Do I have to share personal experiences in a group? No. There is space for sharing after the breath, but speaking is always optional.
- How long does each format take? A regular group includes about 30 minutes of introduction, one hour of breathing and sharing afterwards. A 1-on-1 is more flexible, and active breathing can last up to 1.5 hours.
- Can I combine group and private sessions? Yes. Many people use group sessions for community and regular practice, then add private sessions when they want focused individual support.
