Resistance breathing
Also known as: Inspiratory muscle training, Straw breathing
German: Atemwiderstandstraining, Inspiratorisches Muskeltraining, Strohhalmatmung
Breathing against a deliberate resistance, such as through a straw, narrowed lips or a hand-held trainer, to slow the breath or train the breathing muscles. Inspiratory muscle training has been studied in athletes and in some clinical groups with mixed results depending on the context. It should be gentle and never forced, and medical advice is sensible with heart or lung conditions.
