Spiritual emergency

German: Spirituelle Krise (Spiritual Emergency)

A term coined by Stanislav and Christina Grof for intense experiences, such as vivid imagery, strong emotions or dissolving self-boundaries, that feel overwhelming or destabilising and that the person links to spiritual or inner growth. It is not a medical diagnosis, and the concept is debated, because similar symptoms can also point to a psychiatric or medical condition. Anyone who is unsure what is happening, or who struggles to function in daily life, should seek a doctor or a licensed mental-health professional.
