Re-traumatization
Also known as: Retraumatization
German: Retraumatisierung
A reactivation of overwhelming reactions tied to past trauma, triggered by an experience, setting or interaction that resembles the original threat. In breathwork it can show up as flooding, panic, dissociation or shutting down. Trauma-informed practice lowers the risk through choice, pacing and clear consent, but cannot remove it, and ongoing trauma symptoms belong with a licensed therapist.
