Thoracic breathing
Also known as: Chest breathing
German: Brustatmung, Thorakale Atmung
Breathing that moves mainly the upper chest and ribs. It is normal during exertion, but habitual chest-dominant breathing at rest can go along with tension or stress. Diaphragmatic and thoracic breathing are not opposites: healthy breathing typically uses both.
