Respiratory acidosis
German: Respiratorische Azidose
A fall in blood pH caused by CO₂ building up faster than it is breathed out, the opposite of respiratory alkalosis. It is a clinical condition, usually linked to hypoventilation. A short breath hold raises CO₂ only briefly, and the body corrects it quickly when normal breathing resumes.
